| | Welcome to A Walk on the Wild Side!
In 1998 alone the Hilton Head Humane Association rescued 599 stray
animals and found homes for 450, thanks to a dedicated staff and
hardworking, generous and loving volunteers and supporters.
Many of these animals were abandoned, injured, sick, or victims of abuse, neglect and just plain
ignorance. Even MORE were cats born and raised in the wild, offspring of abandoned or
neglected animals, "feral" (wild) to the core and literally untouchable.
In an effort to combat this problem, an army of
three remarkable women initiated the Feral Cat Program of Hilton Head Island. Take a bow, Anita Snyder, Julie
DelGuercio, and Michelle Dzek.
Wild or "feral" cats are trapped in humane traps, examined for disease,
neutered/spayed, vaccinated and released back where they were found. Do the math.
Nationwide Research supports conclusive data that an effective and consistent Feral Cat program significantly reduces
unwanted animals and disease. More Info
