Joshua J. Webb

Born on October 25, 1968 in Oneonta, NY, Josh is the son of Rodey (Luken) Webb and James I. Webb. Josh graduated from Sherburne-Earlville High School, Sherburne, NY in 1986 and St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY in 1990 with a degree in philosophy and journalism. At the time of his death Josh was vice-president of Webb & Sons, Inc./Lok-N-Logs, Inc. where he headed the handcrafted log building division and was a member of the Board of Directors.

Josh was the eighth generation of the Webb family to live in Chenango County. The first five generations of the Webb grandfathers lived in Beaver Meadow, beginning in the 1800s with Thomas, Anson, Ezra T. and Warren. Josh's great-grandfather, Charles I. Webb, founded Webb & Sons in 1925 and eventually moved the family from Beaver Meadow to Sherburne in 1936. The business was expanded under Josh's grandfather, Julian W. Webb, a community and business leader and long time mayor of New Berlin, NY. His father, James I. Webb, purchased the business from his father, Julian, in 1984 and managed the company for twenty years. Jim, a Sherburne resident, recently sold the retail lumber stores, but remains President/CEO of Lok-N-Logs, Inc. Josh's sister, Julia L. Webb-Bigger, his only sibling and bone marrow donor, plans to return to Sherburne where her new husband, Daniel Bigger, Jr. will join the Lok-N-Logs firm.

Josh loved Chenango County and had purchased land in Smyrna, NY where he had planned to build a handcrafted log home when he was stricken with leukemia in 1994. Josh had the opportunity to travel extensively in the United States, Canada and Europe in his short life, yet he loved the hills of Chenango County the best. He loved all the outdoor activities—cross-country skiing, canoeing, hiking and camping. He was awed by the beauty of nature with her symphonic sounds, her majestic peaks and her vibrant colors.

Josh died on Saturday afternoon, January 31, 1998 in the Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital, Syracuse, NY following a valiant four-year battle against leukemia.
